Kansas City Chiefs’ Top Draft Pick Criticized by NFL Analyst
Aaron E. Martinez/American-Statesman / USA TODAY NETWORK

Kansas City Chiefs first-round pick Xavier Worthy adds an element of game-altering speed to Patrick Mahomes‘ arsenal and one of the league’s most underachieving receiving corps last season, but not everyone believes it was the right choice.

After the Chiefs receiving corps led the league in dropped passes last season, and on the heels of signing Marquise “Hollywood” Brown in free agency, Kansas City added Worthy after trading up to the No. 28 overall pick.

However, CBS Sports’ Josh Edwards put together a list of each team’s most questionable selection in this year’s draft, with Worthy getting the nod for Kansas City.

“Kansas City did a nice job adding value over the course of those three days,” Edwards writes for CBS. “There was little issue with any of their selections but Worthy carries the most risk. The history of NFL Combine speedsters translating to quality professionals is bleak. The Texas product weighed in at just 165 pounds, which is a massive outlier in a league built on size and power.”

Worthy ran the 40-yard dash in a record-setting 4.21 seconds during the NFL Combine after catching a career-high 75 passes for 1,014 yards with five touchdowns during his final season in Austin.

Kansas City is banking on Worthy’s speed matching his production at the next level, in one of the league’s most prolific offenses.
